When you begin to miss something, does that mean you are discontent with what you currently have?
I really have been starting to miss autumns on the East Coast. The very apparent changes of seasons with leaves changing, weather turning crisp, and winter clothes that slowly start to make an appearance. I miss apple picking with church members, coming home with bags & bags filled to the brim with yummy apples that my mom then proceeded to make all sorts of things with. I miss the Thanksgivings that meant New Jersey, Boston and Connecticut would be all reunited again. When we actually had a whole week off which made such road trips & family gatherings possible (since when does Thanksgiving break mean just Thursday & Friday off??) I miss Cape Cod, I miss New England.
Does that mean I'm really...discontent?
hey! you found your flash cards. :)
ReplyDeletei think it's okay to reminisce long weeks off for thanksgiving. but instead of dwelling on the past, you should look forward to the future.

ReplyDeletesurprisingly your little question made me think quite a bit.
i thought about heaven...i highly doubt we will miss anything when we are in heaven, because everything about it satisfies us. even the good things here on earth, will be even better up there...
so i guess yes, in some way you are discontent...
and i think as people, we will always be missing stuff
Hi debriefing partner! =D
ReplyDeleteRachel. I really liked this post. This question has been on my mind since I read your entry.
Anyway, firstly, I think it would be unfair for me to attempt to answer your question about your own feelings... haha. But here's what I will try to answer with.
Discontentment almost always means that there is foreknowledge of something better. But it is somewhat attributable to circumstance, emotional state of being, and other factors that are not always known. The thing is, i think that it is something God designed us with. Every single human being, whether they admit to it or not, is always seeking for some grand purpose because of this discontentment. For all, the solution to this discontentment is found in something or someone that they believe will fulfill their discontentment. But we know that, ultimately, it's only God that can fill our hearts. As Blaise Pascal once said... “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every person, and it can never be filled by any created thing. It can only be filled by God, made known through Jesus Christ.”
So what could that potentially mean for you? Maybe you are discontent... but it's not necessarily a bad thing. Because you can taste and see the other side...
I just realized that my answer was so much larger in scale and thought than what your original question and its context was.... lol. Sorry! But that's really what I thought about this weekend... hahaha. Hope all is well in Berkeley!
